WATER ANALYSIS
Terrapin Aquatics ManagementStandard water analysis is done before each treatment.
Dissolved Oxygen (DO):
Dissolved Oxygen is the amount of oxygen that is present in the pond water and available for fish and other aquatic wild life.
Dissolved Oxygen factors Include:
- water temperature
- amount of biological decay of organic material
Dissolved Oxygen levels below 6.0 ppm can negatively affect pond life. These levels can be controlled by proper aquatic weed and algae management as well as the installation of aeration systems.
Water Temperature:
Water Temperature can vary throughout the pond water depending on depth. Water temperature directly affects dissolved oxygen (DO). Very little can be done to change the temperature of a body of water.
pH:
pH is the measure of whether the pond water is acidic or basic.
The pH of a body of water should fall between 6.0 and 9.0. Most commonly fish will respond better in water with a pH near 7.0. Fish can become stunted, or their populations reduced or even absent due to pH levels less than 6.0.
